Situated on a sun-soaked plateau at 1500m, right in the heart of the breathtaking Swiss Alps, Verbier is a beautiful alpine resort developed very much in harmony with its natural surroundings. Less than a two hour transfer from Geneva airport, Verbier is one of the most accessible alpine resorts in Europe.
More famous for its winter season, Verbier has kept its summer potential hidden under a bushel. In fact, the opportunities to enjoy the outdoors in the summer are great, and the atmosphere in resort is fun and relaxed. Verbier's summer climate is perfect for outdoor activities, with Mediterranean daytime temperatures, long daylight hours and fresh alpine air.
Verbier is very biker friendly - not surprising since the town is the starting point of the legendary Grand Raid Cristalp, and also the venue for stages of the Tour de Swiss and the Swiss downhill championships. As well as four bike shops, the town has a wide variety of shops and boutiques selling everything from ski, snowboard and outdoor gear, to designer fashions and traditional Swiss gifts and souvenirs.
If you don't want to spend all week biking, or if you have non-bikers among your group, there's a staggering array of outdoor activities to enjoy in and around Verbier including rock climbing, hiking, paragliding, horse riding, fishing, river rafting, hydro speed, rap jumping, canyoning and bungee jumping.
As for more conventional activities, Verbier has an eighteen hole golf course, a pitch and putt course and a local sports centre with excellent facilities including indoor and outdoor pools, squash courts, tennis courts, an ice skating rink, a half pipe and beach volley ball.
If this all sounds too energetic, you can layback, relax on the balcony, and enjoy the spectacular mountain views, or take a trip to one of the region's many and varied visitor attractions, like the world's second highest curved dam at Mauvoisin
